Code of Conduct

Christian Code of Ethics & Policy

Students, faculty members, and administrative employees are responsible for knowing and obeying IAU policies as well as local, state, and federal laws. The list below is an example of behaviors that may result in disciplinary action by IAU and is not all-inclusive. In cases of ambiguity or inconsistency, the final determination is made by designated officials.

1. Dishonesty

Acts of dishonesty include, but are not limited to:

  • Furnishing false information to any IAU official, faculty member, or office
  • Forgery, alteration, or misuse of any IAU document, record, or instrument of identification
  • Tampering with the election of any recognized IAU organization
  • Misappropriation of student activity and/or IAU funds
  • Falsification of work hours on a payroll timesheet
  • Violating a student’s right to privacy as outlined in the IAU’s FERPA policy
2. Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:

  • Cheating: Using or attempting to use crib sheets, electronic sources, stolen exams, unauthorized study aids, or copying/colluding with others.
  • Fabrication: Falsifying, inventing, or misstating data, information, or citations in academic work or applications.
  • Plagiarism: Using another's ideas, words, images, or other materials without proper citation, including submitting purchased or downloaded work.
  • Facilitating Academic Dishonesty: Assisting or attempting to assist another in committing academic misconduct.
3. Verbal Assault, Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Defamation, and Threatening or Abusive Behavior

This includes physical abuse, verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, coercion, and other behavior that endangers the health or safety of any person. Examples of prohibited bullying include:

  • Verbal abuse such as derogatory remarks, insults, and name calling
  • Verbal or physical conduct of a threatening or humiliating nature
  • Sabotaging or undermining an individual’s performance or educational experience
  • Inappropriate physical contact (pushing, shoving, etc.) or damage to property
  • Inappropriate electronic communication (threatening emails, texts, social media posts)

“Defamation” involves publishing a false statement that harms an individual’s reputation.

4. Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other offensive conduct either sexual in nature or directed at someone because of their gender. This behavior creates a hostile or offensive environment and is not tolerated.

Forms include:

  • Verbal: Innuendos, suggestive comments, jokes, propositions, or threats.
  • Non-Verbal: Sexually suggestive objects, leering, whistling, or obscene gestures.
  • Physical: Unwanted physical contact, touching, pinching, or blocking movement.
5. Disruption or Obstruction

This includes disruption or obstruction of teaching, research, administration, or other USANU activities on or off campus. It covers intentional interference with normal operations and unregistered public demonstrations that disrupt campus functions.

6. Theft, Damage, or Unauthorized Use

This covers attempted or actual theft, unauthorized use, or damage to USANU property or property of any USANU community member, including intent to vandalize or destroy property.

7. Unauthorized Entry or Use of USANU Premises

Unauthorized possession, duplication, or use of keys/access codes or entry into areas of USANU facilities without permission is prohibited.

8. Compliance

Failure to comply with directions from USANU officials or law enforcement officers, including failure to provide proof of identity when requested, is a violation.

9. Drugs, Alcohol, Firearms, Gambling

This section covers abuse or violation of laws regarding controlled substances, alcohol, and other related activities. Prohibited acts include:

  • Use, possession, or distribution of narcotics or controlled substances (except as permitted by law)
  • Improper use or distribution of alcoholic beverages or public intoxication
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia on campus
  • Use or possession of firearms, explosives, or dangerous chemicals not authorized by IAU
  • Misuse of legal objects in a dangerous manner (e.g., laser pointers aimed at eyes)
  • Illegal gambling or wagering
10. Disorderly, Indecent Conduct

Behavior that is disorderly, lewd, or indecent, or that breaches the peace or aids others in doing so, is prohibited on USANU premises or at USANU-sponsored functions.

11. Theft or Other Abuse of Computer Resources

This includes unauthorized access to, alteration of, or use of computing resources and network access. Examples include:

  • Unauthorized file access or transfer
  • Using another’s login credentials
  • Interfering with another’s work through computing facilities
  • Spreading viruses or spam messages
  • Illegal downloading of copyrighted materials
12. Improper Use of Cell Phone Cameras

Misusing mobile phone cameras or other recording devices in areas with an expectation of privacy or to compromise academic work or intellectual property rights is prohibited.

13. Hazing

Hazing—any act that endangers the mental or physical health of a student or that damages property as a condition for group membership—is strictly forbidden.

14. Abuse of Fire Safety Standards

Any tampering with fire alarms or firefighting equipment, or failure to evacuate during an alarm, including hindering emergency personnel, is a violation.

15. Other Offenses Against the IAU Community

This includes violations of other IAU policies, rules, or regulations, such as unauthorized solicitation, creating safety hazards, or any other conduct deemed offensive to the community.

16. Criminal Conduct and/or Civil Offenses

A violation of any local, state, or federal criminal law—or behavior considered a civil offense—may be treated as a violation of the Code of Conduct. IAU reserves the right to involve law enforcement and defer internal action until criminal proceedings are complete. Exoneration from criminal charges does not grant immunity from civil or IAU actions.
